Miss Transqueen India is an Indian beauty pageant for the transgender people in India. The winner of the title represent India at Miss International Queen. Pageant started in 2017, The third edition of Miss Trans Queen India pageant concluded in New Delhi on 3rd October 2019. Neetu RS from Bengaluru won the coveted title of Miss Trans Queen India 2019.
The aim of the beauty pageant is to empower and support transgender women. This contest is a platform for young, socially deprived transwomen to showcase their beauty, diversity, talent and intelligence. The first ever Miss Transqueen India was held at Gurugram in 2017. 16 contestants competed for the crown selected from among 1500 transgender people across 10 states.
Miss Transqueen India is the brainchild of Reena Rai, She is the founder and also the chairperson of the organization. Reena Rai, a homemaker living in New Delhi. She was inspired to create the pageant after listening to a number of male-to-female transgender people in India, issues they face in the society.
Reena Rai, founder and chairperson of Suhani Dream Catchers Pvt Ltd, told IANS. “I want to promote transgenders because some of them are my friends. I know how they feel. If this pageant will help them to be more confident, then I don’t see any harm in showing support to them.”
This is the first beauty pageant for transgenders in India, and has been created keeping in mind the need of the transgenders. Miss Transqueen India aimed to celebrate gender fluidity and enhance the profile of Indian trans community. Winner get the opportunity to represent India at the Miss International Queen pageant in Thailand.
Like other beauty pageants, The contestants will go through several rounds after the audition and making to finals. They will go through swimming costume, traditional wear, evening gown and question-answer rounds.
The participants were ranked on their behaviour, etiquette, body language, personal interview, confidence in facing camera, physical fitness as well as their general knowledge.
When Pageant started in 2017 there was no prize money, due to lack of sponsorship. participants will get good exposure. also Winner got the opportunity to represent India at the Miss International Queen.
But in 2019 Winner received a beauty treatment voucher worth Rs 60,000 from a firm and a free surgery offer from a clinic in Gujarat.
