Miss Gay Philippines – Beauty Pageant for Gay, Transgender and Bisexual

Miss Gay Philippines is a gay beauty pageant in the Philippines. This Pageant is currently owned by the Betera Group. But it was founded in 1979 by entertainment journalist and talk show host Chito Alcid.

It is the longest-running national gay beauty pageant in the Philippines, running since 1979. In 2019 Vince Vios won the title and 1st  & 2nd runner up was Russell Gumpal, Red Elli respectively.

Aim of this Pageant is to create a platform for lgbt community to further develop their personality, to be professional in dealing with people and remind them the importance of moral values and their relationship to society.

In 2013, the pageant was bought by the Betera Group. Until 2015, The winner of the pageant represented the Philippines at the ‘Miss_International_Queen’ in Thailand, Up until when ‘Viva Entertainment’ and the city of Manila launched Miss_Gay_Manila.

Miss Gay Philippines Requirement :

Contestants do not have to be a title holder in order to participate. Anyone can participate without having received any pageant titles. Contestants must fulfill these qualifications:

–> Filipino identifying as gay, trans, or bisexual – Gay, trans, and bisexual identities are blurred in Filipino culture in a third gender identity.

–> 17 to 34 years old and Atleast 5’4″ in height. Proportionate physique.

–> At least a high school diploma. Have good communication skills. and should have good moral character.

In order to qualify as a contestant for pageant, candidates have to go through few screening process.

–> First, Contestants must confirm their availability for orientation, photoshoots, and the pageant.

–> Second, To confirm their qualifications Contestants go through a series of interviews.

–> Third, In order to become an official candidate, Contestants have to pay the applicable registration fee. Fourth, all official candidates must attend orientation and pictorials.

Titles and Awards :

Since it was founded in 1979, there have been five main title awards. But in 2017 pageant added two additional main titles. All titles and awards come with a cash reward.

Miss Gay Philippines Pageant Rounds :

Contestants will have to go through various rounds. The pageant consists of traditional costumes, an opening number, swimsuits and evening gowns rounds. After the evening gowns round, there is an elimination round to narrow down the contestants.

The last round of the Pageant is a question & answer round. This round is an essential part of the pageant. A smart, answer given by a contestant is a major factor in their pageant success. Afterwards, major titles and minor awards are awarded.
