Valentina Fluchaire Representing Mexico Was Crowned Miss International Queen 2020, World’s biggest transgender pageant, at the Miss Tiffany’s Universe pageant in Pattaya, Thailand held on march 7. Last year winner Jazelle Barbie Royale from the USA crowned Valentina Fluchaire at the end of the event.

Miss International Queen is the world’s beauty pageant for transgender women. It is held annually in Pattaya City, Thailand since 2004. Pageant is open to the world’s transgender women who may or may not have gone through sex reassignment surgery. For this year’s contest 21 contestants from across the World competed for the crown.

Impact of Corona Virus on Pageant :

Many events cancelled around the world over Covid-19 fears, the Miss International Queen 2020 went ahead with few empty seats.

Due to corona virus fears contestants had their temperatures checked before going on stage and crowd was smaller than the previous year with many empty seats. Organizers had advised anyone who felt unwell not to attend. The entire venue was disinfected the day before the event.

Contestants posed in ball gowns and face masks before the competition to support public health measures to control the virus.

Valentina Fluchaire hailed her victory as a win for all trans-women in Latin America. “This is for you, I made this for you,” she said.

Second place went to Ruethaipreeya Buanglee, the home contestant from Thailand and third place went to Ariella Moura from Brazil.

This was the 15th year for this pageant. Thailand has built a reputation as a place with a relaxed attitude towards gender and sexual diversity. Homosexuality was decriminalised in Thailand in 1956 and the country maintains a reasonably tolerant approach to LGBT+ people and issues.

But Thai activists still complain that LGBT+ people face discrimination and stigma in schools, the workplace and health facilities, and are often rejected by their families. Contestants say the pageant is a chance to challenge that discrimination.

The event has been held, since 1984 in Pattaya Thailand. Thailand has some of the best sex-reassignment surgeons in the world with people travelling here for treatments every year.
