“I knew it was right. I know there is nobody who is better for me. I had put it off but then I just asked her. I am shit at remembering dates but I knew that I would never forget that one. Genius from me.” Brunt said.
Two England Women cricketers Natalie Sciver, 27, and Katherine Brunt, 34, announced their engagement on October 11 – National Coming Out Day. The couple had already been living together in a shared house for four years.
The couple revealed they first became partners hours after a gripping World Cup final victory over India at Lord’s in July 2017. It was Fast-bowler Katherine Brunt who asked all-rounder Natalie Sciver to be her girlfriend.
18 months later, on New Year’s Eve last year, Katherine Brunt once again asking the question. The big one. And she (Natalie Sciver) said Yes. 🥰 On Friday, on National Coming Out Day they announce their engagement.
They had to wait to make the relationship public because Brunt’s parents, who are Christian, struggled coming to terms with the fact their daughter is a gay woman.
Brunt told the Guardian: “My parents are different to Natalie’s. They are quite Christian so it is not something that is done and that’s why it has held me back.”
“They don’t believe in the way I choose to live my life, basically, so it has been quite difficult. Having to tell my parents was really difficult because I care a lot about them so it was something I put off for a long, long time. But as I have got older, I have seen sense and realised that it is not about that, it is about being yourself and living life properly.”
Brunt adds “My parents love me: there is no questioning that. They will always be there for me and support me. They are still my parents and they still love me, so it is a compromise I have to take but I am ok with that.”
For Sciver, who came out to her parents weeks after Brunt asked her out, the pressure hasn’t been quite the same. However, the 27-year-old believes this step will add to her confidence.
Sciver, 27, announced their engagement on Instagram, writing alongside three photos: ‘Welcome to our wine and magazine party #ISaidYes #Mrs&Mrs #Bridesmaids.’
Then, following a series in India next September, The couple plan to marry in the holiday home in Chamonix, which Sciver has visited since she was a child, where Brunt proposed to get married.
The wedding will take place as soon as England’s series against India finishes next September.
Our Best Wishes to the Couple.
